Retail Services
We are retail specialists. We know what it takes to make a project come to life. Retail is demanding. It’s a numbers game driven by tight margins, stiff competition and unforgiving deadlines. We know. Retail construction and remodeling have been the backbone of our business since 1972.

Saunders’ first job was a $70,000 shoe store in Denver at 3rd and Detroit. We’ve come a long way since then, completing more than $800 million in Front Range retail projects built with market leaders: grocery stores, anchor stores, super stores, dealerships, strip malls and power centers. But one thing has never changed: our values. From day one, Saunders has earned its reputation based on two beliefs: (1) It is more important to solve problems than to point fingers, and (2) Taking care of the owner’s interests is paramount. On every project, our highest priority is to make things right. This philosophy has proven its value in good times and lean times alike. And, in a business where loyalty must be re-earned on every project, we enjoy client relationships that go back more than 25 years.
Saunders Retail Services is a specialized group within the Saunders organization, run by people who eat, sleep and breathe retail. When you work with us, you get crews who understand the pressures of retail construction and thrive on the pace of the work. You get a seasoned team of retail estimators, managers, engineers, administrators and superintendents backed by the resources of one of Colorado’s largest general contractors. You get a partner primed to further your success on projects of any size, from a single store to a regional mall.
Retail deadlines leave no room for compromise. Saunders Retail Services has never missed a turnover date or grand opening. Never. In fact, about half of our jobs are completed early, and we routinely trim construction schedules—sometimes by months. We employ a field force of more than 300 carpenters and laborers, the largest in the Rocky Mountain region. When a project needs a boost, we can staff up fast, doubling or tripling crews if needed. Phased permitting and compression scheduling also keep us on track. Our teams understand municipal idiosyncrasies and know how to expedite the permitting process. To eliminate last-minute stress at turnover, we pre-punch before we bring in architects and owners, and the superintendent remains on site until turnover is complete. On larger projects, we can punch and close out in phases, enabling clients to finish and stock one area at a time.

Our Customers
"Integrity is one of Saunders’ biggest strengths. Overall, this is one of the most talented groups of project managers, superintendents and estimators of any contractor we work with. And that’s true top to bottom in their organization. The preconstruction department is another core strength. All contractors do preconstruction these days, but Saunders’ product and system are the best.”
