Building Information Modeling
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an innovative approach and tool for building design, construction and facility management. Saunders’ Emerging Technologies team has a vast variety of expertise ranging from certified BIM software experts and licensed architects to project managers and superintendents. All members of our team contribute to the integrity of the BIM deliverable. Saunders BIM professionals are using this tool in the following ways:
- Visualization: Saunders utilizes BIM to further explain design intent and various conditions surrounding the project. Renderings, animations, 3D walkthroughs/flythroughs, as well as sun/shadow studies. In addition, BIM visualization allows Saunders to provide visual collision detection between major systems and components. All visualization services are done in-house throughout the life of the project.
- 4D: BIM can effectively be used to create ordering, fabrication, and delivery schedules for building materials and systems.
- 5D: Saunders BIM capacity allows for built-in data/cost estimating features. Material quantities are developed and change with the model as the process evolves. Saunders may also utilize third party products to provide other costing data types.
- Forensic Analysis: BIM can be used to graphically illustrate potential failures, leaks, evacuation plans, etc. Saunders uniquely uses BIM as a digital investigative tool, to look for errors that may occur during construction, which may not be visually evident.
